anthï OPEN STUDIO PERFORMANCE『巡り』

Since its opening in 2000, Kyoto Art Center has been implementing the “Artist in Residence” program, in which domestic and international artists and researchers stay in Kyoto for a certain period of time to engage in creative activities and exchanges, supporting the activities of emerging and young artists and researchers who wish to pursue creative activities in Kyoto.

This year’s resident artist, anthï, will hold an open studio, 『巡り』(Meguri).

anthï’s research focuses particularly on Japanese pop culture and media, and the transcultural exchanges with it shaped by their experience as a queer, Latin-American artist. During their stay in Kyoto from April to July, 2025, they will delve into the frictions between real, simulated, and reimagined spaces within these processes. Please come and join us for the last performance of anthï’s residency in Kyoto!

Artist

巡り(Meguri) conveys a traversal across the landscapes of media, online culture, and personal history. It serves as a crossing point where the imaginary of anime, the simulated of the digital, and the real, exchange meanings to create new ones.

Uncovering these intersections through the friction between recorded materials, the artist assembles part of their results and their work during their residency period into this sound performance, and shares their journey for meaning, to allow the audience to create their own.

It is a pilgrimage to find meaning in none of those landscapes individually, but rather in the collision and collapse of them altogether.

“ It is an adventure, right? Right?
In this world where the real becomes fiction “

Profile

anthï

anthï Artist

anthï is an electronic music producer, performer and sound artist from Santiago, Chile. Their work explores materials from Internet pop culture as mechanisms of authenticity and intimacy. Delving into the cultural dissonances of virtual communities, the technological mediation of relationships, and how medial narratives are re-appropriated within our bodies, they create intricate digital soundscapes ranging from intimate and candid to explosive.
In late 2023, they released their lastest album "algún día me separaré de mis amigas" through the Shanghai-based label Genome 6.66Mbp, following their previous albums "pedro engel anuncia el fin del patriarcado", "Tercer Impacto", and other released, published both independently and via labels from Japan, UK, USA, Mexico, and Chile.
In 2023, they participated as a resident artist at the Pacífica Residency in Chile, organized by Centro NAVE, Goethe-Institut and IME.
They hold a Master of Music in Creative Practice from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a Bachelor's degree in Music Composition from Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
