Since its establishment in 2000, Kyoto Art Center has been supporting the activities of emerging artists and researchers who seek to create new artistic expression through exposure to different cultures by offering an “Artist in Residence” program. Artists and researchers from Japan and abroad stay in Kyoto for a certain period of time to engage in creative activities and exchange.
This year, Kyoto Art Center invited anthï from Chile to participate in its open call program for artists from around the world.
anthï is in residence at Kyoto Art Center for three months from 10th April – 10th July, 2025. anthï’s research focuses particularly on Japanese pop culture and media, and the transcultural exchanges with it shaped by their experience as a queer, Latin-American artist. During their stay in Kyoto they will delve into the frictions between real, simulated, and reimagined spaces within these processes. The results of the residency at Kyoto Art Center will be shared with the public around early July.
【anthï : biography】
anthï is an electronic music producer, performer and sound artist from Santiago, Chile. Their work explores materials from Internet pop culture as mechanisms of authenticity and intimacy. In late 2023, they released their lastest album “algún día me separaré de mis amigas” through the Shanghai-based label Genome 6.66Mbp, following their previous albums “pedro engel anuncia el fin del patriarcado”, “Tercer Impacto”, and other released, published both independently and via labels from Japan, UK, USA, Mexico, and Chile.
In 2023, they participated as a resident artist at the Pacífica Residency in Chile, organized by Centro NAVE, Goethe-Institut and IME.
They hold a Master of Music in Creative Practice from Goldsmiths, University of London, and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition from Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
