Q1What is the Kyoto Art Center?

A1Kyoto Art Center is a creative, alternative and open center for any living arts. The facility is renovated a Meirin elemetary school which had been treated as a treasure by community. We have 12 studios, 3 alternative presetation spaces, 2 small galleries, some meeting spaces, a library and a café. We support young artists by offering them a space to create their works and hold various training programs for them. Also KAC plans and holds performances, exhibitions, workshops, lectures and so on for public to enjoy arts.

Q2Do you have any archives about your activities before?

A2Yes, some archives are available at the library. Visual archives are also available.

Q3When is the closed day?

A3It is closed only between Dec. 28th to Jan. 4th. During the check up of equipments we will temporarily close our facilities.

Q4How much is the entrance fee?
-
A4Generally there is no entrance fee, but we charge for some performances. Check the prices at the event guides.

Q5Where can I get tickets for such events?
-
A5Tickets are sold at the ticket counter on the 1st floor of the west wing. They are also sold at play guides and on the internet. Ticket selling place changes with the event, so check the event information beforehand.

Q1How to get to KAC.

Get off at Shijo Station of Karasuma Line of City Sunway or get off at Karasuma Station of Hankyu Kyoto Line and get out through Exit No. 22 or Exit No. 24. Walk for 5 minutes. If you come from JR Kyoto station, use the City Subway and get off at Shijo Station. When using a City Bus, get off at Shijo-Karasuma bus stop and walk for 5 minutes. For details, see the “Access” page.
*There is no parking space for the visitors. We request you to kindly use public transportation or bicycle to visit KAC.

Q2Is there any car parking space for the visitors?

A2No car parking there is. If you want to come here by car, use some paying parking lots near here

Q3Is there any motorbike or bicycle parking space?

Only inside the north entrance, motorbikes or bicycles can be parked.

Q4Is it possible to use a wheel chair in the facility?

Yes, you can use the elevator and the ramps for wheel chair. Also there are two toilets for wheel chair users on the first and second floors in the South Wing. We have some wheel chairs for visitors.
*Wheel chair users should better tell us about their visit when they apply for participating in a lecture or workshop.

Q1Is there any facility such as a gallery and a hall for rent?

A1Basically we don’t rent out rooms. However, we offer artists studios after scrutiny. Those who are planning to apply for our support programs that include creating artworks in our studios and holding performances in our hall and free space, must see the support programs for details.

Q2Is it possible to eat and drink in the facility?

A2
Yes, you can eat and drink at the access path and on the benches located on the ground. The cafe is located on the 1st floor of the South Wing. However, eating and drinking is prohibited in some places such as the library and information corner.
*Take your garbage with you.

Q3Is there any eating facility?

Yes, there is a cafe “Maeda Coffee Meirin-ten” on the first floor of the South Wing. The cafe serves lunch and soft drinks.

Q4Is there any nursery room?

A4No, there isn’t. However some of our events have a nursery service. Check it at the “Events” page. A space for changing diapers is attached in the toilets for wheel chair users on the 1st and 2nd floors of the South Wing.

Q5What hours is the library open?
-
A5The library is open from 10:00 to 20:00. It is closed on the off days of KAC as well as on the last day of each month. In case that the last day falls on either Saturday, Sunday or a National Holiday, the week day before the last day of the month will be closed. The materials in the library are not for lent. In addition to the books, the library has video stock and an audio corner. It has also some picture books for children.

Q6Is it possible to bring my own flyers for display at the information room?

Yes, it is possible. The information center displays flyers related to arts and cultures. If you want to display your flyers, bring them to our office or mail them. Maximum number of flyers is 30.
*We don’t accept those flyers which have commercial, political or religious purposes. Flyers that are offensive to public demeanor and morality are unacceptable too.

Q7Is Wi-Fi available at KAC?

A7It is available at the lobby, the information room and other places.

Q1Is it possible to shoot in the facility?
-
A1
Yes, it is possible provided that it doesn’t interrupt the passage of visitors, and no event is held at KAC. If you want to shoot here, fill inthe application form(PDF)and send it to us. Permission will be granted after checking the information you have provided us.
*Submit the application form two weeks before the day you plan to use our facilities so that we can schedule the event in advance. If we cannot arrange the schedule, we may not be able to comply with your request.

Q2Is it possible to see and tour the facility?

A2Yes. Download the application form for the tour of KAC(PDF)fill in and send it to us. The staff will respond to you upon the arrival of the form. Depending on our schedule, your visit might be changed.

Q3Is it possible for your staff to visit other places to explain about your activities and facilities?

Yes, we have visited several universities and enterprises. Let us know the details of your plan by e-mail or by using the query form.
*We can visit private gatherings too. Please consult us about it.

Q1How to apply for a job at KAC

A1We will announce our job opportunity on our website. Recruitment for internship is done for each event separately. Check such opportunities on our website and flyers.

Q2Is there any opportunity to work as a volunteer?

A2Yes, we are recruiting volunteers as watchers of the exhibition and as receptionists for the performances. We hold the volunteer orientations periodically. See the Volunteer page.

Q3Do you accept students for museum curator?

A3No we don’t. See A1 for internship.
