The man who we met at a cafe on Kawaramachi St. is the second-generation owner of a hair salon and he calls it ‘beauty arrangement salon’. There is no service for perming or dying hair in the salon. If he doesn’t thinks it is necessary, he doesn’t even cut hair. He merely arranges the beauty of clients to discover their true self. What does it mean to “arrange beauty”? This is the question that drives us to meet people and to visit places in Kyoto. Let’s start with telling you what we encountered at a friend’s house three years ago.

**************************************************
Through visiting many places and interacting with local people, Hyslom made discoveries and raised some questions. As a young artist group, they found their own style to utilizing various mediums. This time Hyslom will cultivate their relation to the land, scenery and buildings based on the demolition and construction of a friend’s house. Being a part of the reconstruction and demolition of kominka (old Japanese-style house), and getting to know a hair stylist calling his salon Biseiinn (beauty arrangement salon) , they developed relationships with local people and various places. At this show they will tell you the stories interweaving their experiences in media of film, photos, and performance. This exhibition in Kyoto is one of the new directions that Hyslom is taking. Keep your eye on their new projects coming up in the near future.

hyslom(Itaru Kato、Fuminori Hoshino、Yu Yoshida)

The group consists of three artists, Itaru Kato, Fuminori Hoshino and Yu Yoshida. Since 2009 the group has been working on variety of projects driven by the experiences they had while they periodically visited places where deforesting took place to build a city. Through the exploration they encountered local people, discovered unique objects and raised questions. To get to know the scenery and the land they were interested in, they interact each other in the space and have captured these creations in film, photos and movement performances. From the footage and memories, they deliver their message in sculpture, on stage, and in film.
Their works include the film series ”Documentation of Hysteresis”, stage performances “Big-One-Pipe” , “Landlord’s Carrier Pigeon” , and “The Pursuit of New Possibility Project (Osamu Jareo , hyslom and Masaru Kakio)” They performed in “Azuabashi Dance Crossing”, appeared as a guest performer in Ishinha”MAREBITO”and play the part as Kijishi in the film”Atarashiki Tami” (Director, Kiichiro Yamazaki, scheduled to be released this year). One of the participating artists of “OYE!”(One Year of Exploration) at Social Kitchen in Kyoto from 2012 to 2013. The award of excellence recipient of the 6th AAC Sound Performance Dojo in 2012.
