Special Exhibition by Ciara Scanlan & Matthew Nevin, the co-directors of MART in Ireland.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:

'Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery', "I fear, we are largely at present, a nation of imitators, theJapanese of Western Europe" - Douglas Hyde

Ciara Scanlan & Matthew Nevin have worked with three notable Irish creatives, to produce a performative video installation to be exhibited in Kyoto Arts Centre. The project involves artists Ciara Scanlan & Matthew Nevin, [also curators of MART (www.mart.ie)] working alongside afilmmaker Trish McAdams, a visual artist Andrew Carson, and a well known songwriter Roisin Outilise their talents from their own disciplines to analyse ‘imitation’. Visitors and participants will be invited to copy and create their own versions of the videos.

The narcissism of modern culture; selfies, minor feats of ‘fame’ and our obsession with self indulgent self promotion via social media has changed how we live day to day. The main objective of the performative installation is to analyse the creation of a specific set of bizarre activities of performances and actions that may result in a global visual arts performance campaign., with the possibility of it going viral and eventually spread through social media, tv, radio and youtube to become an art piece that generates FAME for each user.
